2011/12 SWorkZ Summer Series Round 3
After a forecast of Scattered showers and rain, Round 3 Sworkz Summer series got under way with clearing sky and warm humidy weather. This was also the final round for the Club Championship with 1st and 2nd in both Buggy and Truggy exstremely close.
With Three rounds of qualifying to be completed Kev Lewis only needed to start the finals to win the Buggy Class as the current leader Jomari had gone on holidays overseas. Whilst the Matt Hope had a slender 100point lead over a Fast Finishing John Lewis.
Qualifying times were a little down for buggy with a Slick dusty track keeping all on there toes. Kev Lewis TQ'd and was the only driver in the 17 zone in his Associated RC8.2, Its taken Kev a few race meet to come to terms with the new car but certainly was able to make it work on the Slick track. Dragen qualified in 2nd and Just Hobbies driver Steve Snedden also in a RC8.2 in 3rd. New comer to LRRCC Shane Whitaker was abel to take a well earned 4th, Tom Toll Held 5th in his Alpha Powered Rango, Tom showed great pace but was unable to put it together for a hole 10min qualifier and Todd Holden Out qualified his Sworks Boss in 6th
In Truggy Scott Elkins's Newly Alpha Powered Xray Truggy was again the only one on 17 lap pace and with super consisent qualifiers. Scott was able to get 10min run time from his Xray with 0.97 dev which enable to keep Dragen at bay. Great work from dragen to Quali both classes in 2nd. Dragen only had to start the final to secure 3rd in the Club Championships, The two contender in Club Championship were back in 7th and 9th respectively.
After a few issue in Qualifying Michael Savic was forces to start in the B Final but showed his class and was able to lead the field home in his Sworkz machine, from newcomer Joe Pappas (Watch this new junior he is fast and only going to get faster)
The Buggy A-Final saw a Field of 8 buggy face the starter, with Kev lewis in pole with Dragen and Tom Toll breathing down his neck. The 3 buggy had a close race early on before drama slowed/sidelined both Tom's durango and Dragen SWorkz buggies. Both were able to continue but could not catch up the lost time to Kev Lewis's RC8.2 with Kev taking the win by 26sec to Steve Snedden. Steve Snedden drove a fast but steady pace but couldnt match the pace of Kev to take 2nd with New Memeber Josh Oconnor in 3rd. Great drive from Josh after starting 8th to drive in to a top 3 finish. 4th was a new junior to the club Josh Mason in his EP Xray Buggy.
The Truggy A-Final saw Dragen jump to an early lead from Scott Elkins, Scott with his consistent pace was able to run him down after 3lap and take the lead. Dragen maintained his 2nd position for much of the race until mechanical gremlins kill any chance of taking it to Scott. However it was enough points to secure 3rd in the club champs. David Dawes and Paul Sanare battled out for 2nd and 3rd with David coming away with the 2nd place by approx 14 sec with John Lewis in his super consisent Massive mods powered MBX6t in 4th a further 2laps furthers back.
CONGRATS to Kev on the his 1st and TQ win in his Just Hobbies/At Fuels/RC8.2 and Scott Elkins for a Great TQ and A-Final Victory in his RC King Hobbies/Alpha powered/meccamo Fueled Xray Truggy. This make 2nd win in a row for Scott after Take out the Proline event. So it looks like Scott has the Truggy Locked and Loaded in Truggy Nats in a few week Time. Good Luck

2011 SWEEP CUP
This year we had the pleasure of hosting the first Australian Sweep Cup with international and factory sweep and JQ driver Ryan Lee coming over from Korea to race, also accompanying him was Sweep Racing Manager Mr. Khong. Our local drivers where itching to see they could hang with the imported driver.
This event was little different many run LRRCC with not only being a Controlled tyre event but also offering a Cash prize for the podium positions. The tyre of choice in Buggy / Elec Buggy / Truggy was the ultra soft (silver) Sweep Square Armour tyre.
Due to bad weather prior the event. We had to reduce the event down from a two day event to only one day, with 3 heats and a 45min final with best two heats to count.
Sunday morning came around and the track crew had done wonder on Saturday and amazingly had the track 100% and ready to roll. After a week of rain this was a big feat, considering it had be the wettest July in 50years.
In the buggy class it was looking like a fight between Kevin Lewis, KC Shore and Justin Snape to grab the TQ spot, Kevin ended up taking honors, Ryan Lee struggled to come to terms with the track and his setup with very little track time; however the boy had great pace but seemed to be chasing setup.
Next up was the Electric Buggy class, Seems KC Shore and his Turnigy powered Hyper 9e dominated this class with an easy TQ spot setting the fastest heat time of the whole day 12 laps in 7min 12sec. This was a blistering pace which set the mood for the finals where he went 2 wins from 2 finals to take out the overall win in EP Buggy.

Truggy TQ spot went to young Tom Toll driving his lrp powered Mugen MBX-6T. Tom had much of the qualifying pace to himself, with many of the other top racer chasing either set-up gremlins or mechanical issues. LRRCC President John Lewis had only good word to say about the Square Armour truggy tyre believing it helped him wipe 3sec off his lap times at the Liverpool Track. Robert “Flano” Flanagan also was also back after break from racing and was back on his consistent run; however a couple little gremlins stopped him challenging Tom Toll for TQ honours.
Buggy finals came around, The buzzer sounded and it was on quickly jumping out the front was X-ray driver Justin Snape and Kyosho driver Kevin Lewis, left with a bad start was X-ray and MIT powered driver KC Shore having to fight back , he quickly found himself in tight battle with fellow X-ray driver Snape, with Kevin maintained third spot for around 15min until car troubles spelled the end of his race, and that’s how it stayed for the full 45min final it was a great battle with lead changes 2-3 times a lap at times, at around 15min to go it seemed KC had things under control with Snape only 8-10sec back. KC had started to prove to himself and other he had the nerve to maintain a level head and bring it home, this made a victory for GP buggy and EP buggy for KC taking home a great cash pool. International driver Ryan Lee seemed to have his OS powered JQ working better in the final however a clash with the wall saw him break a front suspension arm and retire, we hope to see Ryan back here soon for a another crack at our track.
Truggy final was rugged affair with a fairly big pile up at the 1st corner. Tom Toll starting from pole was able to clear out early and had fairly clear running and showed he had control of this race. Matt Hope in his newly acquired Mugen MBX-6T probably had the best start of the back marker jumping from 11th on the grid to be in the top 4 early in the race. However this was not to last with a Nova popping a plug and put pay to his day of racing. Dragen one of LRRCC newer member show his skills and managed to work his way up to 3rd fighting it out with Robert Flanagan until the hastily repaired front diff in the Flanagan entered MBX-6T cried enough. John Lewis had great pace early only to be hamstrung with a mysterious electrical issue later diagnosed to be a dodge battery lead... John managed to continue with a haste battery change. Shaun Banks one of the potential front runner at this event in truggy had a horror start being caught up in the crash in the 1st corner and then Flame out with his OS powered RC8T left him chasing for the rest of the race. The wombat (Jordan Blanchard) returned driving the 2nd John Lewis truck powered by a MG66 had good pace early but succumbed to mechanical gremlin dropping him from the race as well. All the while ACE Hobby Australia driver Darrin Campbell in his RC8T crept under radar and snuck up and took the 2nd place cash in the Truggy event. Tom Toll wasn’t headed in the race and took the money in the Truggy race.
We had a couple of other prize on offer the main one being the Best deviation for each class during the qualifying, KC again managed the to grabbed this in EP Buggy, Scott Jones grabbed the truggy prize and Kevin Lewis in Buggy with a awesome 0.8 sec deviation, This allowed him to TQ the buggy field as not only a 0.8 sec deviation his best in that heat was a low 35sec lap.

5th June 2011 -Club Day
Game, set, match KC Shore!
With the club race on the 5th June being raced on the same day as the Fed Express and Raffa duked it out in the French Open final, this report will have a bit of a tennisy theme. Just like France, the sun was shinning the clay was prepped and the ball boys and other officials were in place. In the buggy draw, a small but keen field were on hand to fight it out whilst in the truggy field there was a very pleasing lineup of wildcards (newbies) which was great to see. The tournament was to be played in the full championship mode - ie 5 sets (4 heats and a final) which would test even the most fit and ready players.
In the buggy field, KC took the first couple of sets although in the fourth he was pushed to a tie break with only four seconds separating him from comeback kid Lander who has been enduring some injuries on the sidelines of late. The fifth and final set was an epic though. Battled out over 30 minutes, it was quite a tussle - particularly with Shore running a Turnigy powered HoBoa electric car up against a field of noisy GP monsters. Early in the set, Lander broke Shore's serve to take the hole shot and pull out a small lead. Lack of match practice though lead to some awful unforced errors and a few double faults - some might call it the yips. Shore was back in the hunt and passed Lander to take a small lead. The unknown was Shore's battery change and how long the replacement would last. Well who would have thought - Shore pitted after twelve minutes and was then able to run the remainder of the race on the next pack - 18 odd minutes! Epic! Lander was no match for the EP powered monster and finished the final some 18 seconds back although happy to have had a decent hitout and some quality match practice.
In the women's draw - I mean Truggy sorry..... Club stalwart John Lewis gave the wildcards a training school by pushing his Mugen into first place ahead of Matt Hope's Losi. Apart from not racing the early heats to keep the Roland Garross clay off their pride and joys, these two didn't drop a set.
Anyway, great day out and thanks to all of the new people who showed up. Great to have you there and we hope you will come back again soon.
So at the end of a great day all that is left to be said is: Thank you ball boys and ball girls and thank you ladies and gentlemen.

2011 Autumn Cup Round 1
It was a damp start to the race meeting with competition held off until 10am to allow a few of the more damp sections of the track to dry out and allow for some great racing. Round One in both classes was a bit of a mud bath with most cars dragging some extra weight around the track. The cars on the circuit quickly helped to clear and remaining water and the track improved pace as the day evolved.
With Two rounds of qualifying to count (four in total) there was some scope for a few poor runs. In Truggy the battle was tight with Flanagan, Banks, Hinton and Elkins all a chance of grabbing top spot. Flanagan emerged top of the tree just above Elkins and Hinton. In Buggy Savic, Cura & Lewis all had a chance to take the TQ but a final race win with a 12 lap run saw Lewis TQ.
The B Final for Buggy kicked off with the late withdrawal of the P1 car which opened up T1 to be attacked a little more by the field. It was a relatively clean start with the field. Jordan Blanchard was quickly into the lead and looking to push away with the win while at the other end of the field a slow and conservative start from Michael Campbell looked like it could be costly as he had to move through the field. Michael quickly moved up the order and soon found himself in 2nd chasing Jordan who had a great lead. Several issues with the Wombat machine saw Michael within 1/3rd of a lap coming into the closing stages. A final failure from Jordan’s car on the final lap of the final saw Michael take the win, Jordan took 2nd due to the massive lead held by the Top 2 with Jake Brett 3rd and Luke Dibley grabbing the last bump up spot
The Buggy Main saw a 12 car field take the green with a disastrous start for the TQ man Kevin Lewis who ended lap 1 in 11th and with a massive mountain to climb, in contrast Dallas Gardiner had the perfect start and was in the lead from T1. Behind the battle for 2nd was great news for the leader who extended his lead with Assa, Cura & Zlotkowski all fighting for the same patch of dirt and 2nd place. Savic slowly edged toward the Top 3 ready to pounce onto the podium by the halfway point of the race Dallas had almost a lap lead over the field and looking like a comfortable win but Jomari Cura had other ideas as he moved his Buggy closer towards the front of the field but the early pace of Gardiner would prove to much of a gap with Dallas crossing for the win, with Jomari 15 seconds back for 2nd and Michael Zlotlowski holding a comfortable 3rd. Just behind these guys the tightest battle at the end of the race was for 4th with Michael Savic holding out Kev Lewis by 0.5 seconds as the crossed the line.
