Rest In Peace - Terry McGowan

The LRRCC Family have been greatly saddened by the sudden passing of Terry McGowan, a club member for as long as I can remember. Terry was one of the wonderful characters of the RC world and LRRCC, I always enjoyed chatting with Terry and wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to the club.

He was always one of the first to offer an assistance to the club, members or other racers when they needed it. I know that all members of the club will miss him and it certainly wont be the same without his smiling face on race days.

The thoughts of every member and the committee are with Terry's family in this sad time. Terry you where a dead set champion, will be sadly missed personally I am deeply saddened by this news Rest In Peace Terry.

2010 Winter Cup - Final Round

On another cold winter morning the field gathered for the final round of the 2010 Winter Cup. With it also being the final race before the 2010 Truggy National’s there were a few extra drivers out to get tuned into the track.

With some big names in attendance at the meeting it was always going to be a battle for the top position on the grid for the final. The top 8 Buggy guys were all running making 16 lap runs but it was Ari Barkla that took the top spot on the grid.

Truggy was a 3 way battle between Kevin Lewis, Robert Flanagan and Steve Snedden, they were also completing 16 lap runs but it was Kevin that took the chocolates and the grid advantage into the main final.

The B Final in Truggy saw Andrew Davies take the win with Rob McGowan 2nd and Grant Busuttil 3rd. The B Final of Buggy saw a tight battle with Michael Campbell, Michael Savic and Corey Smith. Campbell and Smith had Savic covered for pace but Michael Savic’s consistency saw him come home 1st, followed by Corey Smith and Michael Campbell grabbing 3rd.

The Truggy A Final hit the track minus big girl Robert Flanagan who didn’t want any mud on his Truggy. This left Kevin and Steve to fight it out, with these drivers swapping the lead it looked to be a great battle until the ISHMA machine had a failure and Steve was out. This opened up the podium which saw a storming Shaun Banks come from the tail of the field early. Kevin Lewis took the easy win with Shaun Banks recovering to an awesome 2nd place and Dave Watts took 3rd.

When the Buggy A final took to the circuit it was evident it could be a great battle with most of the field not looking out of place in the final of a major meeting. It was a bit of a scruffy lap behind Ari Barkla who made the most of the tight racing happening behind and bolted from the field to establish a nice buffer for his extra fuel stops. There was some early push and shove between Justin Snape, KC Shore, Chris Lander, Nick Drygalla & Jomari Cura as they all pushed to catch Ari.

With Ari disappearing into the distance KC made his way into 2nd place and pushed hard to bridge the gap with it falling to under 10 seconds at one stage it looked like Ari might have been challenged but as the race went on the pace of Ari’s XRay went through the roof with him push consitant 36 second laps for the final 10 minutes. This saw Ari home in super quick 1st place, KC flamed on the final lap but managed to hold 2nd with Justin Snape grabbing 3rd.

With this being the final round of the Winter Cup the results for the 3 round series are:
Buggy Class - 1st KC Shore, 2nd Craig McGowan, 3rd Corey Smith
Truggy Class – 1st Phil Eliopoulos, 2nd Mathew Tuckwell, 3rd Jorden Blanchard

2010 Winter Cup - Round 2

Well with a bitterly cold and slow start to the day, we headed into the 1st qualifiers in the buggy class it looked like another tight fight between the local guns Jomah “king” Cura, Juzza , KC, and Carl Dawson, all these boys were cable of 37s lap times so it was down to the one who could hold there nerve the best , at the end of qualifying it was Juzza who came up with the TQ position, this left him most chuffed even on a club day!

Truggy saw a tight battle between Shaun Banks, Jarrod Pace, Mathew Krahe & Phil Eliopoulos with all these drivers managing 11 lap runs in there Truggy’s. The top 3 were covered by 1 second which saw Mathew Krahe’s Hot Bodies take out the TQ.

So its down to the finals!!

With the low numbers we had to employ a unique starting system where we ran rolling starts. This helped some and hindered others, in the buggy field the top pole sitters left the start way behind most of the field. It wasn’t long before KC made his way to the top and began to check out, this left Juzza, Carl and young up and coming gun driver Craig McGowan to fight for the podium, its was very tight racing between these boys. Then out of the blue KC had unheard of flame out which sore Juzza storm home to a well deserved win with Carl Dawson in second and Craig in third. KC made it back up to 4th making it a Xray 1,2,3,4

The Truggy final had a much better rolling start which saw Mathew maintain his position at the front of the field. It was quickly apparent that this race would be a war of attrition with Truggy’s dropping out of the mix. Shaun Banks and Phil Eliopoulos had no issues throughout the race and battled for Top spot. Phil took the win in his Mugen MBX6T finishing 1 lap ahead of Banksy in his RC8T. Mathew Tuckwell held onto 3rd place despite going out of the race at the 18 minute mark.

2010 Winter Cup - Round 1

The start of the 2010 Winter Cup was greeted with a nice cold morning as everyone arrived at the track. There were plenty of new faces to run in both classes which was definately great to see. The Truggy's were the first out onto the track with plenty of members moving into the Truggy class to setup their Truggy's for the upcoming Truggy Nationals. The fastest man on the track was Robert Flanagan but with Flanagan experiencing an issue in round 2, with track conditions perfect, Justin Snape went straight to the Top of the timesheets and TQ'd the event in his first drive of his new Losi 2.0T.

Buggy class was a battle of 2 with KC Shore and Nick Drygalla battling it out for the TQ, in what was proving to be a tight battle KC managed to snatch the TQ spot in round 2 by 0.3 seconds. This time split looked to ensure a super close battle in the final.

The Truggy final was full of controversy with Kevin Lewis jumping the start and taking off at the 3 second mark. This turned out to be his strategy to aviod issues in the first few corners, race official's called him in for a drive through penalty but Kevins pace was too fast on the pass through and he was once again called in for to perform the drive through at a resonable pace. This saw him exit the pit behind Justin Snape as Justin pulled out a race winning gap on the field. The fight for the final podium spot was on between Steve Snedden and Robert Flanagan with Robert pushing his motor to 13 minutes for a 1 stop run.

Justin's Losi lost a screw in the steering components late in the race moving Kevin into 1st place which he held until the end of the race. Steve Snedden won the battle with Flanagan for 2nd, with the MassiveMods driver having settle for 3rd.

The Buggies hit the track will a massive amount of dust coverring the track at T1, as the dust settled KC and Nick were battling it out at the head of the field while Corey Smith was left to figure out how his Losi became stuck on the orange pipe facing the wrong direction. As the Top 2 cleared out into the distance the rest of the field were closely packed battling it out but the man on the move early was Craig McGowan as he began the race dropping to last on the track. As the leaders caught traffic KC displayed so great skill in threading through it quite quickly where Nick struggled to push through the pack. This proved the difference with KC (XRay 808) taking the win over Nick (Mugen MBX6) with Craig (XRay 808) storming from last the 3rd.

It was a great day of racing and we look forward to Round 2 on the 27th.

2010 Queens Birthday Cup

Once again the weather looked dismall all week leading up to the weekends event, with a bit of luck and help from Scotty, Marty and some other top Members we had the track ready to rock!! It was looking like it would be tight fight for the Buggy TQ spot with Ari, KC and Kev puting in good 16lappers, after the dust had settled it was the A man Ari Bakla to take pole in the Buggy A final. The Buggy B final saw top spot go to Troy Cook, with Simon Stewart in 2nd and Adam Hinton 3rd.

Through the Truggy qualifing rounds it was apparent that The Flanno had found pace and the right temprement to challenge Jomah and Scotty for the top spot, could he do it??? Not in quali as Jomah took the top spot on the grid. As the Truggy Final began you could tell it was going to be a crackerwith a tight battle between Jomah, Flanno and Scotty for roughly the firtst 10mins Scotty was ran out of fuel by his pitman, so this allowed Flanno and Jomari to battle it out. Coming into the final stretch with final pitstops Jomah had an issue with his wheel. When he got back on track he was several laps down and this allowed Flanno cruize home to a well over due win, well done!!!! Jomah held onto 2nd and Dennis Leung took 3rd ensuring a Mugen MBX6T lockout of the Truggy Podium

Buggy A Final: 1st - Ari Barkla (XRAY 808), 2nd - KC Shore (XRAY 808), 3rd - Michael Zlotkowski (XRAY 808)

Truggy Final: 1st - Robert Flanagan (MBX6T), 2nd - Jomari Cura (MBX6T), 3rd - Dennis Leung (MBX6T)

The Buggy final looked to be a cracker with Scotty Jones , Juzza, Ari Bakla, Micheal Slotcarjetski, Kc Shore, and others in the house. Well the flag droped and we all took off trying our best to avoid the first turn pile up, it was Ari, and KC that got threw clean , they then set about trying the clear out , KC hung in there with Ari for the first 10-15min after that Ari did what he does best and checked out, so the battle was on for the minor placings. It was Micheal Slotcarjetsksi that came storming home to a solid 3rd place finish, making it a Xray 1,2,3

RC King Hobbies Cup

After a remodelling of the LRRCC curcuit for the upcoming NSW State Titles it was time for racing to return to the track with the RC KING HOBBIES Cup. This would be the first run on the new layout and sure to draw a large field to help dial in their vehicles for the State Titles in 2 weeks.

Kyle McBride made the effort to fly down from QLD to try and obtain an advantage and take the win in 2 weeks time. The first round of qualifying saw what looked like problems for Kyle, Andrew Gillott and Wayne Walker as they fell through the field. On reviewing the race they had cracked the minimum lap time that had been set for the new configuration. Once that was reset they all moved to the top of the timesheets.

The 2nd round saw Andrew Gillott move into the TQ position and just missing a 17 lap run by 5 seconds. Ari Barkla moved up the order into 3rd with a strong run. Through the 3rd round as drivers were improving Andrew Gillott managed to hold firm and clam the first TQ on the new circuit.

1st - Kyle McBride (MBX6), 2nd - Andrew Gillott (Losi EU), 3rd - KC Shore (XRay 808)

1st - Thomas Toll (MBX6T), 2nd - Dennis Leung (MBX6T), 3rd - Scott Elkins (Caster)

The Truggy field hit the track with Phil Eliopoulos, Mathew Krahe and Thomas Toll taking the early advantage. After issues in Round 1 Scott Elkins and Jomari Cura shot straight back to the top of the timesheets with strong runs. Scott Elkins held firm in Round 3 and took the TQ with Jomari in 2nd and Phil pushing hard and gaining 3rd moving into the finals.

The Open class was also in action with several drivers taking the opportunity to shakedown their EP Buggies, KC Shore took the early advantage but Andrew Gillott and Dallas Gardiner responded to the challange. Andrew took TQ of the Open Class with his strong run.

The Open Class hit the track and it proved to be a tight run for the Top 4 with each driver leading at some point in the race. Andrew Gillott was the class of the field taking the win by 1 lap, with 2nd going to KC Shore and Dallas Gardiner taking the final podium position.

It was a great start in the Truggy Final for Jomari Cura as he moved to the front of the field with Scott Elkins in 2nd and Jason Higgerson in 3rd. The race looked to be a battle of 2 with Jomari and Scott pulling away from the field but at the mid race point and issue saw Scott drop down the field and out of contention for the win. Jomari continued to push hard but the Truggy on the move was being driven by Thomas Toll as he had moved through the field from 7th early and into 2nd place with Dennis Leung push hard to catch the recovering Scott Elkins.

Disaster struck for Jomari on lap 27, with almost a 2 lap lead on the field he was out of the race. It was now a battle against the clock for the other drivers to complete enough laps to pass Jomari. It proved to be one lap short for Jomari with Thomas Toll storming to his first win at LRRCC, 2nd went to Dennis Leung with a last lap pass of Scott Elkins who took 3rd after recovering from and early issue.

It was time for the Buggy's to take to the track for there final, as the race began it was a great start for Team Mugen Seiki with Kyle McBride moving to 1st and Wayne Walker 2nd. It was definately not going to be smooth sailing with Andrew Gillott and Ari Bakla pushing hard in the early stages with Gillott moving himself into 2nd. As Kyle moved away from the field an issue for Ari Barkla saw him drop to 10th as Walker moved back into 2nd place. Bad luck once again struck for Wayne as he face some problems that saw him also fall through the field. This moved KC Shore into the Top 3 with Carl Dawson within striking distance to take the final podium position.

At the front of the field it was a dominant performance for Kyle McBride as he lead the event Flag to Flag with a 1 lap advantage over 2nd places Andrew Gillott. 3rd position was much closer with Carl pressuring KC, KC held his nerve to claim the final position on the podium and ensure that 3 different brands were at the top of the field.

The RC King Hobbies Cup was a great event with a top class field. LRRCC would like to thank everyone that made the event possible. Without the hard work and dedication of many of our members there is no way the event would have even hit the track. See you all on the 20th of May for a MASSIVE State Title event!!!!
